In 1877 Panayiotis Thanopoulos founded the "Thanopoulos"​ grocery store in Aiolou Street in downtown Athens. The quality and the variety of foods along with the personalised customer care, made "Thanopoulos"​ a big name in the food market.

His son, Pantelis Thanopoulos, being an educated, active and insightful person, proved to be a worthy successor converting the store into a polymorphic grocery. He then went on to establish in-store restaurants!

In the early ’60s his children continued the innovation he had already established. Inspired by "Fauchon"​ and "Migro"​, they added a Delicatessen Section. They opened two more stores, introducing the self-service concept thus welcoming the Supermarket era. And the tradition continues up until the present day.

At the moment the company has three stores located in the wider Kifissia area and employs approximately 370 persons. The stores are not only distinguished for their unique design but for their wide variety of products, quality service and delicatessen. The company operated an e-shop since 2018 for which it has received an e-volution silver award that same year. Another distinguishing factor is its attractive loyalty programme which has been designed in-house and together with all business modules and support programmes their development and maintenance are catered for by the IT department's team of specialists.
