Altelium Ltd Battery insurance, warranties and fire risk consultancy for energy storage and electric vehicles
General Details

COMPANY OVERVIEW:

Altelium is a young, innovative Insurtech company, creating data and warranty solutions for energy storage and renewable energies.

Batteries are everywhere in modern life, particularly as we shift towards renewable energy and green transport options. Customers want the reassurance of a warranty when they’re investing in new, green technologies but that can be difficult for new companies to provide because of the perceived risks around battery degradation.  Our core business is using data to understand that degradation process and create innovative, data-driven warranty products.

Built on the foundations of a Lloyd’s insurance heritage and powered by the latest technological innovation and AI, Altelium is a trusted assurance partner on the path to net zero.

We provide customised data-informed insurance solutions for financiers, asset owners and OEMs including operational all risk (OAR), construction all risk (CAR) and extended warranties, based on applied battery telematics and battery chemistry knowledge, enhanced with AI.

Customers from all over the world are supplied with an integrated management system though a Cloud-enabled platform, including automated pricing, issuance and underwriting of insurance products, alongside the information needed to maximise the operational health, safety, and longevity of battery assets.

We have a talented and collaborative team spread across the UK and Europe, bringing together expertise from many different fields and industries. In this fast-growing space we are seeing increasing customer demand for the products we offer

WE ARE AWESOME BECAUSE:

We know that the most important mission of our generation is to lower emissions and that’s what we’re helping to do at Altelium.

In the latest report from Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), chair Hoesung Lee said: “I am encouraged by climate action being taken in many countries. There are policies, regulations and market instruments that are proving effective.  If these are scaled up and applied more widely and equitably, they can support deep emissions reductions and stimulate innovation.”

Altelium provides exactly the sort of market instruments the IPCC refers to.

For example, the warranties we provide on second life vehicle batteries mean they can be given up to ten years more life in a battery storage energy system (BESS). Over the course of its life each of these will save an additional 450 tonnes per MWh of CO2 equivalent[i] compared to using first life batteries.

It is exhilarating to be working on something which is meaningful and also intellectually challenging. We have a talented and collaborative team of advanced electro-chemists, engineers, data scientists, AI specialists and actuarial scientists spread across the UK, the US and Europe, bringing together expertise from many different fields and industries. There are 34 of us at the moment, and growing fast!

We offer a thoroughly flexible work environment and although many of the team work remotely, across different time zones and on flexible contracts, you will be made to feel part of the team and can be office based or join in person as you prefer.

The mix of intellectual rigour and emotional purpose provides an interesting and motivating work environment, and as a thriving start-up there is variety, challenge and meaning for everyone to enjoy.

Developed by a team of world class battery and fire safety experts including Professor Harry Hoster, Professor Paul Christensen, Chief Fire Officer Tony McGuirk and Power Risk Engineer Paul Markham Altelium’s end-to-end battery insurance and risk management solution was originally inspired by father and son team Charley and Ed Grimston who provide inspirational leadership and personal support across the business.

We are focused on promoting diversity in our workforce, which includes building a gender balanced team with several female data professionals with expert technical knowledge and experience. Head of Data Science Judith Elgie has been involved in several major projects, whilst our newest addition Amy Anderson (Data Scientist) is a ‘down-to-earth’ expert despite coming to us from ground-breaking work developing batteries used in space!

In this fast-growing sector, the rapidly increasing demand for the products we offer is driving innovation forward every day. As part of a warm and friendly team at the cutting edge of development, you will be able to have a big impact on the work we do.

We are the world’s first insurtech business that offers extended warranty insurance for batteries driven by real-time, AI-powered data analytics. As part of the greatest mission of our generation, to cut carbon emissions, it’s exciting and inspiring to lead meaningful change in energy, on the path to net zero.

We have a talented and collaborative team spread across the UK and Europe, bringing together expertise from many different fields and industries. In this fast-growing space we are seeing increasing customer demand for the products we offer.
